1953-1961: The Art School Period
Introduction
Between 1953 and 1961 Roberto Pignataro attended two art schools in Buenos Aires: Manuel Belgrano School of Fine Arts and Prilidiano Pueyrredon National School of Visual Arts, where he obtained three degrees: Professional Illustrator (1955), Teacher of Visual Arts (1958), and Professor in Painting (1961).
During this period, Pignataro produced 500 paintings, primarily oil paint on paper but also collage. This collection provides a unique window into Pignataro’s formative years: the curriculums being taught, the early influences, his stylistic explorations, etc. Most importantly, it reveals a student with an innate mastery of color and a level of confidence with the paintbrush that elevated his work to a place above that of mere artistic exercises
